The Origins of Quantum Mechanics
The other day (I lie, by now it was actually two or three weeks ago) I was thinking over Descartes and suddenly realised that the origins of quantum mechanics do not lie with Planck or Einstein or Bohr or Heisenberg or Schrodinger in the 20th or even 19th century - they go all the way back to the Ancient Greeks, over 2000 years before any of them. The origin of Quantum Mechanics lies with their concept of the atom - because it's the smallest unit of matter, matter becomes quantized - the atom is one quantum. I would think that this might blow your mind, but if you get comfort from it instead, then maybe it's a Quantum of Solace. Eh, eh? Okay, lame, I agree

Quantum of Solace? Groan. You're just trying to find some context in which that title could ever actually make sense. :-P
